It’s pedophilia, stupid!
When “Foleygate” broke, I was outraged like the rest of America. As disturbing as the events itself, the Republican spin machine has made my stomach turn. The neocon playbook includes labeling Foley and Hasert as Democrats … and subtly spinning Foley’s actions as related to his homosexuality and NOT his pedophilia. Hence, the Carville paraphrase in my headline.
Rush Limbaugh claims a Democratic conspiracy. But, the GOP response has been so consistent, one must wonder if they set up Foley just to mobilize the far right for the fall elections. Don’t put it past Rove and company, they did it in 2000, 2002 and 2004.
As someone who spent five years in the trenches investigating and preventing the sexual abuse of children, these tactics make me sick. Whatever one’s political and moral views on homosexuality, anyone who has worked these cases knows that the two are not related in any way shape or form. Pedophiles are both heterosexual and homosexual and there is no higher incidence of pedophilia in either group.
When a pedophile strikes, the individual must be dealt with and the victims protected. Period. Any attempt to move forward one group’s political agenda in the aftermath of Foleygate is small-minded, base and repugnant.
Given my aforementioned professional background, John Walsh has always been an icon/hero of mine. So , I was very glad to hear him tackle the non-issue of Foley’s homosexuality head on during an appearance on Larry King Live. Think Progress has the video for anyone who might have missed the broadcast.
Assuming these allegations are substantiated (and it appears they will be), Foley needs to go to prison because he is a pedophile, not because he is a homosexual. It really is that simple.

Pedophilia is not wrong, its only wrong in the minds of those who want it to be. A conflict of opinion! But since controling sexual attractions and banning physical affection is a lucrative commerce for *so called* child welfare services and the rest of the chain
of low knowledged clowns in the justice circus we wonder when they will stop denigrating pedophiles because of their over-reactive and domineering opinon. (Yep anti pedo laws are just tyranical opnions)
Attractions are part of human nature and therefore nature, and laws alone are futile and will never stop nature and therefore laws alone will never control man. Laws alone cannot prevent or stop human
events, catastrophies, addictions, attractions, from happening.
The proof of this, is that laws have never even stoped man from killing in rages even where
capital punishment exists, or else jails would have been empty for centuries. This is proof that law and justice and psychotherapy is futile and cannot stop man or nature.

There is no defense for the rape of children. None. The only reason I am leaving this comment in place is so others can learn from the twisted logic that you, NAMBLA, The Renee Guyon Society and others of your ilk make to justify their perversions.
As someone who used to help put sick bastards like you in jail, I’ve seen first hand the damage you do to your victims. You wouldn’t. People like you discard the children you use. You never see them mutilate themselves, attempt suicide or, worst of all, turn around and rape other children, thus perpetuating the cycle of abuse.
